Numeracy
The basic Skills Agency definition of Numeracy is
"The ability to ... be able to use mathematics at a level necessary to function in society and work."
The leitch ambition is to have 95% of adults functioning at Entry Level 3 Numeracy by 2020. In Norfolk only 81% of adults are functioning at Entry Level 3 Numeracy. This equates to 250,000 people of working age in Norfolk who have Numeracy skills below Entry Level 3.
The National Standards for Adult Numeracy are set at entry levels 1, 2, and 3 and Level 1 and 2. Practice tests for Numeracy can be found on the 'Test your Skills' Section of the Move On website which can be accessed by clicking on the MOVE ON logo.
The East of England host the Association of Colleges of the Eastern Region (ACER) led regional maths centre, which is funded by the LSC, provides direct support to maths practitioners, creates a network for sgaring good practice, develops links with businesses to help identify work place maths and numeracy skills needs. The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics provides effective strategic leadership for mathematics-specific CPD. It aims to raise the professional status of all those engaged in the teaching of mathematics so that the mathematical potential of learners will be fully realised.
