GYFM Radio

GYFM was formed in 2002 when a group of radio enthusiasts met to discuss the need for a community radio station for Great Yarmouth and the surrounding area. Over time the group invited representatives from the local council and community groups to join in on the organising of a new medium for the people. The station was formed on the basis of providing an informative and entertaining service for the diverse community in Great Yarmouth. As the group grew larger, meetings were held at various venues throughout the borough.
The first RSL 28 day (trial broadcast) took place in April 2008.and received a vast amount of positive public and community support. it was clear that a Community Radio Station was needed in the borough to express opinion, to engage different cultures (Greek and Portuguese language programmes), featuring of local music and much more. Including contributions from such varied guests as The Mayor, PCT Health trainers and The Greens and Bloaters manager!
GYFM's main aim is to gain a full time licence for a Radio Station and to allow anyone from any of the many diverse residents groups to get involved in the workings of the Radio Station or to promote their views. It is a medium for the people.
The Norfolk Learning Partnership contributed to the fist RSL financially because we believe that there are valuable opportunities to reach the community and we are particularly keen to supoport the foreign language broadcasts to help promote opportunites for some of the most difficult to reach in teh area.
GYFM's second RSL is being broadcast during October 08
GYFM Studios are located in Victoria Arcade in Great Yarmouth
