Culture of the Countryside

The project brings the Sainsbury Centre's world art handling collections into local communities and uses them as a starting point for discussion, learning and creativity. The objects, made in rural localities in other parts of the world, form the basis for reflection, study and art-based activities about localities, customs and cultures.
Working in partnership with schools and community organisations across Norfolk and Suffolk between now and 2010, the project will look at how we can interpret and present the contemporary heritage of the countryside of East Anglia. It aims to help people develop new perspectives on their own culture and increase their awareness of the importance of their local heritage and how it fits into a global context.
This project has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund,
