Annual Student Convention for Engineering

Engineering for the Future
On Thursday 18th and Friday 19th September Hethel Engineering Centre held the annual student convention for engineering.
This Norfolk County Council supported event was attended by over 300 students from 19 schools and colleges in the area.
Students and teachers were given the opportunity to browse exhibits from engineering and training/education organisations with engineers and advisors on hand to offer guidance and advice to the students seeking careers in the various fields that engineering offer. Throughout the day students were able to; get hands on with a vehicle simulator, use radiation measuring equipment, experience using Solidworks CAD software, battle man against machine with mini-sumo robots and observe and use the latest CNC and machining equipment. Some of the tenants at HEC were also keen to show the students the work that they do at the centre and offered the students an open door to their workshops.
Students and teachers were able to get a feel for what is available in our learning skills centre and to see what H-STEM can offer. Information was also given on how schools can get hold of 30 free licences of Solidworks software and how your school can take part in one of our rapid prototyping experience days. For further information on these please contact us.
Two presentation sessions introduced the students to 12 different presenters which included those from university, an apprentice from a local engineering company and engineers from some of the counties leading engineering companies.
Feedback from teachers and students has been very positive with schools already registering interest for future conventions.
After Schools Clubs
H-STEM also run after schools clubs with activities including rocket building, k'nex catapaults and sumo bo
