Skills for Life Screening and Skills Checklist

A training opportunity to develop understanding of Skills for Life and to learn about different approaches and ways to respond to initial client needs.

This workshop is suitable for all frontline paid and unpaid staff in the statutory and voluntary sector.

  • Can you recognise when a client is struggling due to literacy and numeracy needs?
  • If you recognise there's a problem, do you know how to deal with it?
  • Do you know how to help your client progress?

The workshop includes:

  • A brief introduction to the Skills for Life agenda
  • Development of understanding of the Skills for Life learner cycle
  • Training on Fast Track - a screening process which has been devised to enable those working as frontline advisers to make an early identification of literacy and numeracy needs, and have the skills to make referrals for further diagnostic assessment
  • Ideas for contextualising screening to suit your own organisation
  • Local contacts to refer clients with SfL needs
  • A list of useful websites
