Numeracy Champions
Become a Numeracy Champion
...because people count
What is a Numeracy Champion?
The role of the Champion is to help others to think about improving their maths. Part of this will be to help others to move on to courses in their local area and support them if needed. You will be paid £20 for each of the first two people that pass entry level 3.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for people who work with or support vulnerable groups in Norfolk. You may be a volunteer, working or offering support. You may be thinking about improving your own maths skills and could complete either level one or level two National test. You will be given full support to do this and paid £30 when you pass your National Test. You will be offered training to help you support others.
Why is maths important?
You may think that maths is not all that important but have you thought about how often you use it?
· Can I afford that item?
· How much do I need for a night out?
· Which is cheaper? What is the best buy?
· Is that the right change?
· How much is that per month?
· When is the next bus? How long will the journey take?
· What is the chance of that?
· How long will it last?
· How much is the VAT?
· How much more will it be after the rise?
· What is the new sale price?
We know that low levels of literacy and numeracy limit the work opportunities available to people.
· Without any literacy and numeracy skills job prospects are limited
· People with basic literacy and numeracy skills had access to 50% of lower skilled jobs;
· Level 1 literacy and numeracy skills had access to 75% of lower skilled jobs
In this competitive environment the situation is likely to get worse.
What's in it for me?
· You will earn £30* when you pass your test in Adult Numeracy (Level 1 or 2)
· And an additional £40* for helping two more people to get a numeracy qualification (£20 for each)
· Free training and support with your maths and training to help you support others
· Improved job prospects
· The satisfaction of helping others
*All payments will be in supermarket or
